Days and Nights very mixed up!!!

This was last Friday night before going out to dinner for the first time, she slept the whole time!!

I have so many sweet pictures to post, but honestly I do not have enough energy to do it yet :) Caroline has her days and nights very mixed up. She will sleep for a 3 to 4 hour stretch during the day. But, about 1 am she will wake and stay up off and on until 7 am. Any advice on how to switch her schedule??? Here is a picture for now, this was last week. I am sure it is during the day, since she is sleeping so soundly!!!

Don't worry, she will eventually figure it out. It may take a month or two but you will start getting some longer stretches at night. There really isn't much you could do - I would TRY to wake Audrey up when she would sleep that long during the day. A song and dance, a washcloth on her cheek....that might wake her up for a bit and help a LITTLE. Otherwise, you're going to be tired but it gets better soon! She is GORGEOUS by the way. Such a princess!

Amy, a little good news for you , Jess (14 now) was 2 years old before he started sleeping good at night ( the good news is that I lived though it and you will too.) Looking back I don't know how I was so tired all the time. But the great memories out weighs the not so good ones . Love, Kristi
Kara says good luck, she was a good sleeper and still is.

My recommendation is to swaddle her TIGHT (arms in) and get a sound machine that has ocean sounds, heartbeat, etc.. Blaire went through this period, and that is what seemed to work. If all else fails, as long as she is fed and dry, let her cry and self sooth for about 20-30 minutes, she'll eventually wear herself out!

you know that saying "never wake a sleeping baby". Well I don't believe that a single bit. My first two had their days and nights confused for a week or two until I started waking them during the day if they had slept over 2.5 hours. So I imediatly did that with Ruby and she never had her days and nights mixed. I use a really loose version of "Baby Wise", Sleep, Eat, Activity and then back to sleep all within a 3 hour period. Whatever you decide eventually she will acclimate, hang in there it gets easier I promise. Just wait until that sweet face smiles at you for the first time. It is like one gigantic "THANKS MOMMY" for all that you are doing for her right now. Thinking of you three during these first few weeks. I know how draining they can be. love Danielle

Yes, babywise was my friend but she's a little too young to start that schedule religiously.
Don't let her sleep longer than 3 hrs in the day, for sure!
Plus, since you are trying to get that weight up, she needs to eat every 3 hrs anyway.
Swaddling tight and the sound machine or fan is a great thing! Naps in the day can be kind of light in the room but at night-night we always did DARK!
Good luck you guys!

I know how you feel BUT believe that it does get better! Caroline will do it on her own, though!!!
If you try & keep her up during the day it will make it worse @ night! What I mean is, you know when you are just completely worn out & then you go to bed & you can't sleep?? Well, with babies it just makes them more tired & then they don't sleep well @ night!
I remember being SO tired & thinking Katherine would never get them straight but @ 8 weeks she slept through the night & has every since!
I PROMISE YOU WILL CATCH UP ON REST,SOON!

Hang in there. It gets better, trust me! She'll have her days and nights confused for a little while but then she'll catch on. I agree with swaddling!!! That was our lifesaver. We got one from Babies R Us called the Kiddopotamus. I didn't have that for the first six weeks but as soon as I got it, Anna slept better than ever. She also only went into her crib at bedtime. She would take her daytime naps in her swing. She knew when she was in her crib it was nite time. But that just worked for us. Everybody's different. Good luck!

Amy,

Caroline is such a very pretty
baby!!

I love seeing all her picture's.

My daughter had colic for the first 4 months and she would cry all night long and sleep during the day.
So I know how hard it is to be up all night.

Just try to rest when she is sleeping and it will get better.
